The McDonaldization of Global Food Systems
America is deemed the most powerful country in the world, so it is no wonder that the concept of fast food began here back in 1916 when the first A&W opened. Fast forward nearly 100 years and there are over 3 million American coined fast food restaurants around the world; McDonald's, KFC and Pizza Hut are among the top 5. The nutrition transition towards foods that are refined, typically coming from animal origin, processed with a myriad of "additives" and increasingly higher in fat and sodium plays a major role in some of the current global epidemics. These epidemics are affecting our health, environment, economy, and our future.
As humans first and consumers second, it is our job to educate ourselves regarding all things in which we consume. It is a fact that the current rate of consumption, and more specifically food production is negatively impacting all levels of the human ecosystem worldwide. If consumption continues to surpass the rate of production, resources will become extinct and real pandemonium will begin. It is time to understand that convenience does not come without a cost. Which brings me to the purpose of this site.........

In order for change to occur, one must first educate them self. When the issue at hand is as complex as the one involving vital resources such as food, water, and land effecting health, the economy and culture it may seem difficult to begin. But realize, you have to begin somewhere. This site is envisioned to be that somewhere where awareness begins leading to enlightenment. It is intended to bring to light the fact that there is not one aspect of life that the globalization of food systems does not impact. With knowledge we can create change through educated decisions. Most blatantly said, here are some of the facts, now you decide what you will do with them.
